Korean Restaurants in Ljubljana

[*Updated December 2023*]

One of the many charms of Ljubljana is its size. Despite it being on the smaller side of European capitals, you can find all kinds of things there. Including a few restaurants serving authentic Korean food and even a Korean cafe serving bingsu (빙수)!

As a lover of Korean food, I was thrilled to find out I can now get some of my favourites like hotteok (호떡), kimchijeon/kimchi pancake (김치전), Korean barbecue (KBBQ) and tteokbokki (떡볶이) in Slovenia's capital as well. In this blog post, I share 7 restaurants serving Korean food in Ljubljana and 3 places where you can get Korean snacks in Slovenia online and in-store.

1. Bistro Suwon

Suwon was the first Korean restaurant that opened in Slovenia in 2017. It is located a 25-minute walk from Ljubljana's main train and bus station. It is located next to the Mercator bus station and Mercator business building.

Menu highlights: bibimbap (비빔밥), mandu (만두), tteokbokki (떡볶이), Korean barbecue (KBBQ)

Besides traditional Korean dishes, their offer also includes house specialities like matcha brownie (녹차 브라우니).

3. Korean Food JamJam

This takeout place is located just across the street from Ljubljana's main bus and train station. As this is a takeaway place only, the prices of the food are cheaper here than in a restaurant.

This is a Korean owned restaurant so authentic Korean food guaranteed.

The menu is simple and it includes: kimbab (김밥), bibimbap (비빔밥), zeyuk bokkeum (제육볶음), bulgogi (불고기), ramen (라면)

4. KSF Korean Street Food

You can find this small hole-in-a-wall takeaway place just around the corner from the Dragon's Bridge. This is another Korean owned place, offering authentic Korean street food.

Menu highlights: hotteok (호떡), mandu (만두), bulgogi (불고기) + Korean fried chicken (치킨)

The current menu and prices:

Mandu/dumplings

  • Japchae (6pc) 5.49 EUR

Hotteok

  • Sweet (sugar, cinnamon, seeds) 1.99 EUR

  • Sweet and cheese 2.49 EUR

  • Bulgogi 3.99 EUR

  • Bulgogi and cheese 4.59 EUR

I definitely recommend trying hotteok (my favourite Korean street food) here. The size of hotteok is really big here and the best value for money I've had so far in Europe.

I tried Japchae mandu and sweet hotteok.

5. Ogam Korean Restaurant

This is another Korean-owned restaurant serving authentic Korean food, including my favourite - popular Korean pancake-like street food hotteok (호떡)!

Hotteok

This restaurant has the most diverse offering in Ljubljana. I have personally visited this restaurant, and I can confirm, the food is absolutely delicious! I can't wait to return here and try more food from their menu.

Menu highlights: hotteok (호떡), dolsot bibimbap (돌솥 비빔밥), bulgogi (불고기), kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake), (김치전), soju (소주), traditional Korean BBQ (Samgyeopsal 삼겹살구이 and teppanyaki)

2024 NOTE: They recently relocated to a new location and they also changed the menu offering. However, this is still the only place in Slovenia that does KBBQ.

6. SarrBing cafe

Meet the first Korean Snowflake Bingsu dessert cafe in Slovenia. Located in the quiet street right in the heart of the city centre you can now treat yourself to a popular Korean dessert - bingsu.

In case you are not familiar with it yet, bingsu (shaved milk snow with toppings) is a popular snack food found almost everywhere in Korea during the summer months. You can choose between 7 different flavours (they also have red bean paste which I've been dearly missing in Europe) and you can even get your bingsu to go (from 3,5 EUR to 6 EUR) Besides bingsu, they also serve various drinks, milkshakes, yuja/yuzu tea, injeolmi toast and more.

7. TLOFT

Whilst this an Asian fusion restaurant, this place is perfect if, let's say, you want something Korean but your friend is more of a sushi fan. :D

Located less than a 10-minute walk from Prešeren Square, this place serves a selection of Asian foods including bubble tea!

Bubble Tea

Menu highlights: ramen burger (라면 버거), bibimbap (비빔밥), bulgogi rice bowl (불고기 덮밥)

If you like cute desserts, I recommend you get Grandma's Garden with Ice Cream (Babičin vrt s sladoledom). 🌷

You can order their food online via Wolt delivery service. Use the code SARA01 to get €5 off your first delivery.

+ KOREAN SNACKS

In the mood for some Korean snacks? You can order them from IPPOYO, an online shop that sells Kpop and Kbeauty products and some Korean snacks like Peppero and Lotte Choco Pies.

You can find Korean snacks and ingredients at SVILNA POT. Besides the online shop, they also have two physical stores in Ljubljana, one in the city centre (Trubarjeva 20, 1000 Ljubljana) and one in BTC, Ljublajna's shopping centre (Pokrita tržnica BTC, 1000 Ljubljana, next to the Eurospin supermarket).

Just a short walk away from Svilna Pot (BTC branch) you can find another shop that sells Asian, including Korean, food, snacks and drinks. ASIA SUPERMARKET is also located in the BTC shopping district (BTC Hala 5 (Tangram, side entrance, look for MISSHA sign above the entrance), Šmartinska cesta 152R, 1000 Ljubljana) and you will find here ingredients for tteokbokki (떡볶이). You will also find flavoured soju (소주) here. though it's quite expensive. A bottle will cost you 6.5 EUR.
