5 Easy London Day Trips by Train

If you are on a lookout for ideas for last minute and easy escape to the English countryside from London, check my recommendations for 5 easy day trips that can be done by rail. 🚂

1. Southend-On-Sea 🌊

 

 

Charming seaside town is perfect to visit in any season. Stroll down the promenade along the award-winning beaches, admire over 500 colourful beach huts of Thorpe Bay, visit the longest pleasure pier in the UK and visit charming American style restaurant.

2. Canterbury ⛪️

 

Canterbury is UNESCO World Heritage Site and a cathedral city located 89 km (55 miles) east-southeast of London in Kent county. Its reasonable distance from London and regular public transport connections making it for a perfect day trip to the English countryside.

 

 

You can easily spend a day here soaking in the rich history, beautiful architecture, and enjoy strolling alongside the Great Stour river which is one of the cleanest in England.

3. Mayfield Lavender Farm💜🍃

 

London's lavender farm is probably the closest lavender field to The City, located in transport Zone 6 south of London. Depending on where your starting point is, the travel time might vary. As the farm is located within London's transport zone, this makes for a relatively cheap day out.

4. Rye🧜‍♀️

 

If you are looking for a day trip to a postcard-perfect English town filled with centuries-old historic buildings, charming cobbled streets, hidden tea rooms and medieval inns, Rye is a perfect place to visit.

 5. Greenwich Park 

 

Greenwich Park is one of the hidden gems that can be found just a short train ride (15 minutes from London Bridge) from the city centre.

 

 

Greenwich Market, Royal Observatory, Prime Meridian, Queen's House, Cutty Sark and of course Greenwich Park are just some of the reasons why you should visit this charming green gem located on the opposite site of the river from Canary Wharf -  one of the . main financial centres of UK.

 

 

There is plenty to do in the park itself, so make sure to check out top photography spots that can be found in Greenwich Park including cherry blossoms avenue, rose gardens and a secret garden.
