Things to Do in Kranjska Gora Slovenia
Chances are you have already heard about the green pocket-size capital city of Slovenia - Ljubljana, or world-famous Lake Bled, one of the most picturesque spots in Slovenia.
If you are looking to escape from the city life and popular tourist hot-spots, visit one of Slovenia's most famous Alpine villages - Kranjska Gora - instead.

Where is Kranjska Gora?
Kranjska Gora is a ski resort located in the northwestern corner of Slovenia, on the edge of mountains and glacial lakes of Triglav National Park.
Kranjska Gora is located about one hour drive from the capital Ljubljana and 50 minutes drive from Slovenia's main airport.
The idyllic Alpine town is connected with the capital city and surrounding areas with local buses, making it easily accessible for a day trip as well.
What to do in Kranjska Gora? (besides skiing)
There is plenty to do and see in Kranjska Gora in any season. And you can also walk (almost) everywhere! If you are not keen on walking then everything is easily accessible by car or decently connected with local public transportation.
1. Explore town's city centre & Alpine Village
Taken straight out of a fairytale, this alpine village is full of stalls selling souvenirs and local delicacies.
2. Hotel Špik Alpine Wellness Resort
Treat yourself to a spa day in the neighbouring village Gozd Martuljek (easily accessible by bus or a long walk).
This four-star wellness resort consists of alpine themed rooms for relaxation and recharge, the world of saunas, beauty centre and indoor pools with one of the most stunning views on the snow-covered mountains.
3. Lake Jasna
This stunning Alpine lake with several very photogenic spots is located just 2 kilometres from Kranjska Gora and easily accessible by foot.
If you are visiting in the summer - bring your swimsuits! If not, walk around the lake and admire scenic views on the mountains and relax in one of the surrounding lakefront cafes.
Tip: Vila Triglav offers a beautiful view on the lake from their outdoor terrace. Their cafe is usually open to the public.
4. Zelenci Nature Reserve
About an hour walk or 5 minutes by car from the centre of Kranjska Gora, you can admire the beautiful Zelenci Nature Reserve with its mesmerizing emerald-coloured lake.
This spring is also one of the sources of Slovenia's longest river Sava.
5. Planica Nordic Centre
This is one of my favourite places on earth. Well known to all ski jumping fans as the birthplace of ski flying (first flights over 100m and 200m), Planica is located about one hour and a half walk from Kranjska Gora (40 minutes from Ratece) or about 15 minutes drive with a car.
Attend ski jumping competitions in March, take the lifts to the top of the hills, and you can also zip line from the top of the second biggest flying hill in the world!
6. SkiSchool.si Kranjska Gora
If you are visiting a ski resort in winter then skiing should be a no brainer.
Beginner, advanced, young or old, just need equipment, skier or snowboarder - this family-operated ski school ranking number 2 on Trip Advisor for Outdoor Activities in Kranjska Gora (just behind Planica Nordic Centre) covers them all.
7. Day trip to Bled and Radovljica
No trip to Slovenia is complete without visiting Lake Bled.
Walk up to Mala Osojnica for the scenic view on the lake, walk around the lake and finish your stroll in Cafe Kavarna.
Order famous Bled Cream Cake (Kremsnita) and enjoy the scenic views.
Make a detour to the medieval town of Radovljica. The town is famous for its views of the Karavanke Alps and the Julian Alps. It is also Slovene capital of beekeeping and chocolate.
8. Russian Chapel on the Vršič Pass
This Russian Orthodox Chapel is dedicated to Saint Vladimir and it was built during World War I by Russian prisoners of war. Today it serves as a war memorial and a symbolic link between Slovenia and Russia.
Russian Chapel is located about 15-minute car ride or an hour and a half walk from Kranjska Gora.
9. Rent a(n electric) bike or scooter
You don't have to be a seasoned cyclist to enjoy bike rides here. There is a cycling trail that will lead you all the way from Jesenice through Kranjska Gora to Italy and or Austria.
The cycling trail in Kranjska Gora will take you to nearby villages like Gozd Martuljek, Podkoren, Rateče and Planica. You can easily bike from Kranjska Gora to Jezero Jasna or Zelenci. This cycling road is not steep and is suitable for anyone, even children.
If you fancy a bit of a challenge, it will take you just over an hour to cycle from Kranjska Gora to Lacs de Fusine (Belopeška jezera), a pair of beautiful Alpine lakes.
Where to eat and drink?
There are quite a few cafes and restaurants that serve local food. Visit Restaurant, Pizzeria, Hotel Kotnik for the best pizza, Cafe Charlie for Bled Cream Cake and Sport Point for tea, hot chocolate or a cold drink.
